Wonderful Pollinators from Our Back Yard
Just before lock down in March 2020 the Our Back Yard team were attending local primary schools to lead sessions all about wonderful pollinators (pollinators are insects and animals that move pollen from plants to plants to allow a new generation of plants to grow).
The sessions involved getting the children outside in nature, with the hope that they learn and appreciate the importance of pollinators on our planet. Pollinators are vital to creating and maintaining the habitats and ecosystems that many animals rely on for food and shelter.
Due to the pandemic, our plans for the sessions have had to change. So, we have created ‘Teacher Packs’ to donate to schools so they can teach the sessions themselves. The pack contains lesson plans, background information, materials, and wildflower seed packs for the children to plant their very own pollinator-friendly flower patch at home.
The Our Back Yard team plan to continue to provide such ‘Teacher Packs’ for our local schools on a variety of different topics such as biodiversity, habitats and other aspects of conservation and ecology.
