This year, International Women’s Day is celebrated under the theme #EmbraceEquity.

Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.

Here at Groundwork North Wales, we want to celebrate the women who continue to work hard every day to support communities in need. We’re forging an inclusive work culture where women’s careers thrive, and their achievements are celebrated.

Karen Balmer, CEO of the Groundwork North Wales group, leads the organisation by demonstrating immense skill and fortitude having been shortlisted for Business Leader of the year in the #Wise100. This list brings together powerful, purposeful women leading ventures across the UK. We wish Karen the best of luck for the announcement ceremony on the 7th March 2023.

Just last year Karen succeeded in receiving the Women in Social Business award for overseeing the organisation's development into one of the UK's top-performing social enterprises at the ninth annual Social Business Awards Wales, hosted by Cwmpas.

Lisa Jones, Youth Project Lead commented on Groundwork North Wales and International Women’s Day:

“I’ve worked for Groundwork North Wales for 11 years, in that time I am proud to have supported the most inspiring, bravest, resilient, and amazing young women over that time.  At the same time working alongside some of the loveliest ladies within the Groundwork North Wales group, I also get to call these women my friends.

Recognising and celebrating these amazing women on International Women’s Day is fantastic. Continuing to recognise and celebrate all women is essential.”

Lisa runs the Wood Shed project here at Groundwork North Wales, a welcoming friendly environment, giving unemployed or retired individuals an opportunity to come together, learn new skills and practice old ones in a relaxed, welcoming, and friendly environment. This incredible project was recognized at the Inspire! Adult Learning Awards as a finalist thanks to Lisa’s hard work and dedication to helping those in need.
