The Your Back Yard initiative has provided support and assistance to individuals and partners in Connah’s Quay over the last few months.
Part of the ongoing Our Back Yard Project the Your Back Yard initiative offered garden maintenance support to shielding residents and NHS key workers and site maintenance to partners across Connah’s Quay.
Residents were offered support with grass and hedge cutting, weeding and general tidy ups. Project staff supported Flintshire County Council and the local conservation charity Wild Ground to tidy up and maintain their sites following the initial lock down period, which had created a backlog of work. The project team has cleared over 80 bags of rubbish and larger fly tipped items, from sites such as Golftyn Park, Central Park and Prince’s Park and helped to restore the formal gardens at Wepre Park.
Richard Aram, Project Manager said
“We hope the project has made a difference to those residents who benefited from the garden support and the wider community who use the various green spaces across Connah’s Quay. In total we made 26 garden visits, tidied and maintained 8 different parks and greenspaces across the area. The residents who benefitted were either shielding or NHS key workers and they were grateful for the support during these difficult times”.
Roy Hughes a shielding resident and reciepent of the Your Back Yard initiative had been unable to attend his garden himself due to any physical activity leaving him out of breath commented
“I am very grateful. They did a brilliant job”.
The wider Our Back Yard Project, funded by the Create Your Spaces Lottery Fund, which works with volunteers to improve the green spaces in Connah’s Quay resumed in September along with the projects work with schools and the forthcoming improvements to Golftyn Park.
We are currently undertaking a survey looking for people’s opinions on the greenspaces in Connah’s Quay which you can complete HERE. We hope to use the information to shape the work of the project and feedback to the partner organisations involved in managing the public greenspaces in Connah’s Quay.
