A new Wild Ground project funded by The Postcode Community Trust

Conservation in Connah’s Quay is a new Wild Ground project funded by The Postcode Community Trust  to improve woodlands for wildlife and nature on three public woodland nature reserves in Connah’s Quay (Broadoak, Llwyni and Gathering Grounds).

Woodlands improve our quality of life by helping to make us physically healthier and improving our mental well-being. Conservation in Connah’s Quay will better connect these woodland areas to the local community through regular weekly volunteering opportunities for all, with a focus on woodland management and creation, as well as holding engaging education sessions with local schools.

The key elements are as follows.

  • Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteering sessions for the local community will run weekly. These will provide volunteers with the opportunity to learn new skills, meet other members of the community, and get active outdoors. Tasks they will include coppicing, hedge laying and wildlife surveying, with the aim of improving the condition of the woodlands for both wildlife and people. The project will also raise awareness about climate change and the importance of protecting woodlands creating opportunities for people to connect with nature.
  • Educational Activities: This will include practical running a number of out-door sessions  learning about woodlands, wildlife and habitats for local primary schools.
