Thanks to funding from Enfinium, Groundwork North Wales is thrilled to launch a brand-new project at Connah’s Quay Community Garden, designed to enhance local green spaces, promote wellbeing, and bring the community together through nature-based activities.

Weekly volunteering sessions will provide opportunities to engage in hands-on activities such as food growing, planting, weeding, pruning, tending to fruit and vegetable plants, creating and maintaining planters and composters, building garden structures, and undertaking conservation tasks like hedge laying and creating wildlife habitats. These sessions will allow volunteers to connect with nature, improve their physical health, and build lasting relationships within their community.

Throughout the year, we will host community events focused on gardening, sustainability, and nature, providing fun and educational experiences for all ages.

In collaboration with Flintshire County Council, the project will also extend beyond the garden to transform alleyways. Working alongside residents, the greening and cleanup initiative will include the installation of hanging baskets, wall planters, and pallet planters. Efforts will be made to clean up litter and tackle fly-tipping issues, while also creating new wildlife-friendly spaces to boost biodiversity. This initiative aims to foster a sense of community pride, make urban spaces more inviting, and support mental and physical wellbeing.

By participating in this project, volunteers and residents can enjoy the benefits of outdoor activity and social connection, contribute to improving local green spaces and wildlife habitats, and help create a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant neighbourhood.
