The 3 Counties Connected Community Rail Partnership is being hosted by Groundwork North Wales.
The partnership aims to develop local initiatives to improve the Chester to Crewe rail line and support the communities that live alongside it.
Community Rail is a growing grassroots movement made up of Community Rail Partnerships and groups across the UK. Their overall aim is to engage communities and help people get the most from their railways, promoting social inclusion and sustainable travel, working alongside train operators to bring about improvements, and bringing stations back to life.
The Community Rail Partnership aims to develop and promote the Chester/ Wrexham /Shrewsbury/ Crewe Railway line as a green railway line with a high level of community involvement, with attractive station facilities, excellent co-ordination with other forms of transport and as a service that meets the needs of local people and of visitors, and in so doing provides value for money for passengers.
The Chester /Wrexham/Shrewsbury/ Crewe Railway line is a vital link between communities on the borders of England and Wales and the programme will develop and support several green initiatives along the line as follows.
Sustainable tourism: encouraging local people to travel more sustainably on the rail line to link to local facilities/tourist attractions / outdoor spaces/local walks.
Healthy Communities: encourage healthy outdoor activities using public transport along the Rail Line and through volunteering initiatives for both young and old.
Volunteering and Regeneration: support volunteers, friends of groups, schools, and youth groups to look after and make local stations greener and more accessible.
