Family Friendly Sessions

There are still plenty of free family-friendly events available this summer from Our Back Yard and Visit Minera both Groundwork North Wales projects and from Wild Ground, all are part of the Groundwork North Wales Group.

Our Back Yard has been running a new weekly Quay Nature Club every Tuesday (11 am – 3 pm) at Wepre Park, Connah’s Quay, on Tuesday 23rd August.  We have been thrilled with the number of new families who have joined the nature club and hope to be able to welcome them back to further events in the area.  Part of Our Back Yard’s summer programme is a coastal clean-up around the tidal estuary of Connah’s Quay, an area really rich in wildlife, which takes place on Friday 19th August, and all are most welcome.

Minera lead mines have seen some great family fun sessions take place this summer and our final event there takes place on Thursday 18th August with a fun family nature trail exploring the wider country park, hunting for clues and spotting wildlife and natural treasures as we go.

Wild Ground, the wildlife conservation charity has a wide variety of nature-based activities running until the end of the holidays.

Three walking events are on offer, with an exciting evening Bat Walk on Tuesday 16th August at Glascoed nature reserve, a lunchtime well-being walk which will hopefully appeal to local office workers at the nearby St Asaph Business Park and a nocturnal walk in Broad Oak Woods near Connah’s Quay on Thursday 25th August.

Outdoor nature-based family activities with a scavenger hunt and woodland trail are also on offer at the Rhydymwyn Nature reserve near Mold on Tuesday 23rd August.

Wild Ground events finish with a flourish at the Lane End Nature reserve in Buckley with fun bushcraft activities on Thursday 25th of August, where kids can make dens, cook marshmallows on the campfire and explore wildlife at the nature reserve.

Families wanting to keep up with all future activities should visit the group website www.groundworknorthwales.org.uk and follow social media for Groundwork North Wales and Wild Ground.
