Safer Streets 5 recently built a new picnic bench for Rhosddu Primary school following the damage of their original bench due to anti-social behaviour.

The Safer Streets 5 project is funded by the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), with the aim of raising awareness among young people about the impact of anti-social behaviour on their local community.

Groundwork North Wales have been actively working with secondary school pupils from Rhosnesni, encouraging them to participate in community-focused projects. This initiative not only helps to improve the local community but also fosters a sense of responsibility and community spirit among the youth.

Thomas Owen, Deputy Headteacher of Rhosddu Primary School, expressed his gratitude:

“When we had the phone call from Aaron to say they would like to donate a picnic bench on the back of hearing the awful news of vandalism to one of our benches, we were thrilled to receive a replacement. The students have done a fantastic job and worked so hard. It was amazing speaking to Aaraon about the project, and you could really see the students’ hard work and determination. Again, a huge thanks.”

Aaron Jones, Leader of the Safer Streets 5 group, also shared his thoughts on the project:

“We are so happy we were able to support Rhosddu Primary School by donating a new picnic bench. This project is a valuable experience for the young people involved, allowing them to see the positive impact they can have on their community. Our goal with Safer Streets 5 is to educate and empower young people to make a difference, and this donation is a testament to their hard work and commitment.”

The project exemplifies the positive outcomes that can be achieved when community members and local organizations come together to address issues and improve their surroundings. The new picnic bench is not only a practical addition to Rhosddu Primary School but also a symbol of community resilience and collaboration.
