Honeypot Children’s Charity, based in Powys, recently received £1,500 towards its’ Respite for Young Carers project. The initiative supports local young carers aged 5–12 by providing short breaks and wraparound support, giving them the chance to relax and unwind from their responsibilities.

During their 3-day, 2-night stays, children take part in activities such as go-karting and arts and crafts, creating space to have fun and simply be themselves. Honeypot is the only UK charity dedicated to consistently supporting young carers in this age group.

For children like Hope, 10, this support is invaluable. At home, she helps care for her autistic twin brother while balancing school and household tasks, often feeling isolated and worried. Her respite break gave her the chance to make friends, build confidence and enjoy being a child without responsibility, returning home feeling calmer and better supported.

Similarly, Jack, 11, helps care for his mum, who lives with serious health conditions. While he is proud of the role he plays, the emotional and practical demands can be challenging. Through Honeypot’s breaks, Jack is able to relax, connect with others and take time out from caring - helping him come back refreshed, more confident and better able to cope with everyday life.

Honeypot Children’s Charity would like to extend their sincere thanks to Tesco for their support in making these vital respite breaks possible.
