Alex, a dedicated volunteer at Rhydymwyn Valley Nature Reserve, has been named Bionet’s Volunteer of the Year for 2024.

This award celebrates the hard work and passion of individuals committed to nature recovery and conservation, and Alex is a shining example of that dedication.
Over the past three years, Alex has been an invaluable part of the Wild Ground volunteer team, contributing to a range of vital conservation efforts. From conducting butterfly surveys and managing pond vegetation to controlling invasive scrub and creating habitat piles to support reptile populations, Alex’s efforts have made a tangible impact on local biodiversity.
“Alex is a real asset to the group,” said Ian Moran, Reserves Officer. “He seldom misses a session, is always courteous to everyone and is curious and enthusiastic about all aspects of wildlife, often impressing the group with his knowledge.”
Alex’s commitment and enthusiasm not only benefit the reserve’s conservation work but also inspire fellow volunteers and staff alike. We are delighted to see Alex’s contributions recognised with this well-deserved award, and we look forward to many more years of working together to protect and restore local wildlife habitats.
Congratulations, Alex! And thank you for all that you do for nature and our community!
