I joined the Groundwork North Wales environment team in April 2023 as an Environment Project Officer because I really wanted a career where I could do something practical and outdoorsy whilst helping nature out at the same time.

I now feel really lucky to get to work across Wild Ground projects too – I just have to remember which branded t-shirt to wear on which day!

There is so much flexibility and variation within my role, which really suits me, as I have a lot of interests and passions! This means I can be with a group of volunteers scything a meadow one day, in a school talking about rivers another, laying hedges in a reserve the next, or trying to construct a 3D Great Crested Newt out of paper mache for a display the day after that... This job really meshes together everything that I love about the outdoors – and then I get to share that with others too!

Trying to think of new and different ways to involve people in nature conservation and the climate crisis is probably the most exciting part of my role. Working for a small organisation means that I can have a say on future projects and actively contribute to changes that are being made within the organisation to make green and blue spaces as inclusive as possible for the diverse communities of North East Wales.

Something that is surprising/unexpected about me is that I worked on the Danny Boyle movie ‘Yesterday’ when I was a student in Liverpool - although it was mostly just me handing out water to a bunch of extras!
