Lend & Mend was pleased to welcome Cllr Beryl Blackmore – the Mayor of Wrexham, along with other Councillors, and Council Officers, and the Chair and CEO of Groundwork North Wales and Refurbs to the official Launch Event of Lend & Mend at Tŷ Pawb in the heart of Wrexham.

The hub offers residents a smarter, more sustainable way to access everyday items. This innovative new hub allows locals to borrow tools, appliances, and sports equipment for a small fee—helping to save money, cut waste, and reduce unnecessary consumption.

Cllr Beryl Blackmore – the Mayor of Wrexham commented

“We are thrilled to have this opening in Wrexham. To be able to hire something for a small amount rather than having to purchase large items you may only use once is fantastic. It is a great asset to the community and a great way to promote sustainability.  I encourage everyone to give it a go. Bring back the good old days of sharing and reusing.”

Lend and Mend will be hosting regular repair sessions where people can bring broken household items for free repair and learn directly from skilled volunteers. Creative residents can also take part in upcycling workshops, discovering how to transform old or discarded materials into something new and useful.

More than just a lending library, Lend and Mend is a space for connection and community. The repair sessions and hands-on workshops will bring people together, fostering skill sharing and building a stronger sense of collaboration across the area. Rather than purchasing items that sit idle for most of the year, residents now have the opportunity to borrow what they need, when they need it. Instead of discarding broken belongings, they can learn how to repair and reuse—extending the life of everyday items and keeping them out of landfill.

Lend and Mend is designed to help people make small changes with a big impact, both financially and environmentally. By reducing the need for new products, the initiative cuts down on CO₂ emissions and limits the consumption of raw materials, contributing to long-term environmental conservation.

With a growing calendar of repair events, workshops, and lending opportunities, Lend and Mend is set to become a lively hub for sustainable living. Locals are encouraged to get involved—whether by borrowing, volunteering, or learning something new.

Over the coming week there will be a campaign to raise local awareness of the new facility, following which the hub will be open to the public from 1st May when Manager Jackie Tomkinson will be available to welcome new members and organise future events.

Lend and Mend is the result of a collaborative effort between Wrexham County Council, Benthyg Cymru, Repair Cafe Wales, Lend Engine, Groundwork North Wales and Refurbs, and community volunteers.
