As Halloween approaches, we all look forward to picking the perfect pumpkin to carve into spooky works of art.
But what happens once Halloween is over? Instead of throwing your pumpkin away, why not find creative ways to use it – and teach your children to do the same?
Hubbub research shows that last year millions of pumpkins went in the bin, carved and uneaten. With support from Hubbub, we’re helping to make a change as part of their #EatYourPumpkin campaign. By decorating your pumpkin instead of carving, it will stay fresh until you’re ready to eat it!
This year, we’re excited to host a Pumpkin Workshop, where families can learn how to make the most of their pumpkins while enjoying some Halloween fun. Bring your children along for a morning of pumpkin decorating, creative crafts, and tasty pumpkin-themed treats. It’s a brilliant way to celebrate the season and learn about reducing waste.
Pumpkin Workshop for Children
On 28th October, from 10am to 12pm, our pumpkin workshop will offer fantastic hands-on experience for children to decorate their very own pumpkin and take part in exciting Halloween-themed activities.
Our workshop focuses on sustainability and reducing food waste. Instead of letting pumpkins go to waste after Halloween, we’ll show you how to repurpose them in clever ways – whether that’s cooking them or composting them. Parents will also get helpful tips on how to reuse pumpkins and make the most of them this autumn.
Eating Your Pumpkin
As well as being eco-friendly, cooking with pumpkin is a great way to reduce food waste. Pumpkins are rich in vitamins A, C, and E, along with fiber and antioxidants. From muffins to cookies, you can use pumpkin in a variety of recipes.
To help you get started, here are two pumpkin recipes from our café staff:
- Pumpkin Muffins with Cream Cheese Frosting
- Pumpkin Cookies with Maple Cream Cheese Frosting
Whether your children want to decorate their own pumpkins or you’re keen to find new ways to reduce waste this Halloween, our workshop is perfect for the whole family. Come along on the 28th October for a morning of creative, pumpkin-filled fun!
These workshops have been made possible thanks to funding from Hubbub.
