As we celebrate Welsh Charities Week (25-29 November), Refurbs Flint is shining a spotlight on the power of community-driven initiatives and calling for local businesses and residents of Flintshire to support their Community Fridge project.
Welsh Charities Week, organized by WCVA, highlights the invaluable work of charities, voluntary organisations, community groups, and volunteers across Wales. Charities are a lifeline for many – making a big difference with seemingly small steps and supporting individuals through both good and bad times. Refurbs Flint’s Community Fridge offers a sustainable solution to food waste while helping those in need.
The Community Fridge provides a public space where surplus food can be shared, reducing waste and supporting environmental sustainability. Open to everyone, it accepts donations from supermarkets, local businesses, food producers, households, and community gardens. Anyone is welcome to give or take food, ensuring food is diverted from landfills and put to good use.
By preventing food waste, the Community Fridge reduces greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to a smaller carbon footprint, all while addressing food insecurity in the Flintshire area.
Refurbs Flint is calling on local businesses and community members to get involved by donating surplus food or supporting the initiative in other ways. Your contribution can make a tangible difference in promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging a culture of sharing and care within the community.
Let’s use this Welsh Charities Week as a time to reflect on the power of collective action and how small steps, like contributing to the Community Fridge, can lead to big changes.
Together we can reduce food waste, support our neighbours, and build a stronger, more sustainable community.
