In the spirit of Buy Nothing New Day, Refurbs Buckley is inviting locals to call into their next Clothes Swap.
The event will encourage the community to swap and browse gently-used clothing, giving everyone the chance to find their perfect Christmas party outfit – without having to buy anything new.
Buy Nothing New Day, a global movement that challenges people to reconsider their spending habits around Black Friday and Christmas, encourages people to refrain from buying new items. Instead, people are encouraged to reuse, recycle, and swap what they already have. This year, we’re focusing on secondhand fashion to reduce waste, embrace sustainable practices, and rethink our relationship with clothing.
Event Details
What: Clothes Swap
When: 20th November, 12:30pm – 4pm
Where: Refurbs Buckley, Brunswick, CH7 2ED
How it Works: Bring any gently used clothing items and exchange them for “new-to-you” pieces.
“Shopping for the festive season can put pressure on our finances and the environment,” says Hanna, Organiser. “By hosting Clothes Swaps such as this, we’re helping the community embrace a more sustainable way to shop. Everyone can find unique, stylish items to wear for Christmas events, all while reducing waste and making mindful fashion choices.”
The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to waste and pollution. With millions of garments ending up in landfills each year, swapping clothes helps reduce environmental impact while giving new life to pre-loved pieces. The event also offers a chance for community members to connect and celebrate shared values around sustainability.
Together, we can make Buy Nothing New Day more than just a one-day initiative. With community support, it can be the start of new habits that prioritise quality, sustainability, and creativity over consumption.
