Flintshire Fellas Wood Shed needs volunteers!!

Refurbs has launched its new 'Flintshire Fellas Wood Shed' project which aims to target the recruitment of male volunteers. If you are retired, not working or would like a new hobby and want to meet new people in a really welcoming and friendly environment we want you.

Come along to our Flintshire Felals Wood Shed where we revamp and repair wooden furniture, create affordable new wooden pieces and care out new friendships.

The sessions will be held two days a week at the Refurbs Flintshire office, 1-3 Aber Park Industrial Estate, Aber Park Road in Flint.

Emma Cook, volunteer co-ordinator, said: "I believe one of the key benefits woodworking volunteers will gain from the Flintshire Fellas Wood Shed project, apart from learning new skills, is to meet new people in a welcoming and friendly environment, so they are able to carve out new friendships.

"It will teach woodwork and joinery skills. They learn skills which could come in useful if they are unemployed and want to find work but through that we will put on other training to help them and they can meet new people which reduces isolation.

"Hopefully by the end, the project will be self sustaining and we can carry it on.

"It's a real positive project and I'm hoping in the future it will open up to other areas and we can get women or young people involved.

"For me, it's about more than just a men's in sheds project. It's about helping males who feel isolated or are struggling.

"It's about providing a fun, safe and engaging environment so they can learn new skills and make things for the benefit of the community."

No qualifications are needed to volunteer for the project but Emma said an interest in woodwork and/or recycling would be beneficial.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed and refreshments will be available each day.
