Adult Community Learning (ACL) and Groundwork Training are launching a suite of new and refreshed courses from family learning to AI.

The variety of new courses will expand engagement and support learning both for families and communities across Wrexham and Flintshire. These new courses have been designed to embed essential skills such as numeracy, literacy, and digital literacy, and offer employability workshops and family learning courses.

These courses can help individuals improve their job prospects, gain and develop skills, enhance their wellbeing, pursue personal interests and gain the confidence to go on to further learning. With a focus on communities, the sessions will emphasise social interaction and building connections within the community.

AI and Your CV – 1 x 3 hours (non-accredited)

This workshop helps learners understand how AI is used in job recruitment. Learners will learn how theycan use AI tools to improve their CVs, cover letters and interview preparation.

Driving Theory Test Preparation - 6 x 2 hour sessions (non accredited)

This course will help learners prepare for their driving test theory using approved resources and practice materials.

Exploring Wellbeing – 8 x 3 hour sessions (accredited at level 1)

 This course explores healthy lifestyles, activities to improve emotional and physical wellbeing and local activities that can support improving wellbeing, and action planning around improving a learner’s wellbeing. This is a progression course from the Introduction to Wellbeing course.

Family History - 6 x 2 hours (non accredited)

This step-by-step course will provide learners will the skills and knowledge to explore their family tree by combining online research and access to the locally held archives that are available to the general public. Following the course, learners will be confident enough to continue their research independently.

 Upcycling - 6 x 2 hours (non-accredited)

During these sessions we will focus on transforming discarded or unwanted items into new, usable, and personal products. These sessions can cover a range of techniques and materials, offering individuals the chance to learn how to creatively reuse items like furniture, clothing, and household objects, contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendly approach to consumption.

Family Wellbeing - 6 x 2 hour (non-accredited)

Friendly informal sessions looking at ideas to improve wellbeing as a family including what causes stress and the impact this can have. Looking at the 5 ways to wellbeing strategies to improve wellbeing, through a variety of group discussion and activities. Activities include walks, nature walks, practical activities (plants and wellbeing, gardening, natural crafts).

Story Sacks - 6 x 2 hours (non-accredited)

During these sessions parents will make a story sack with their child, using recycled/reused materials. Over the 6 sessions families will make 3 story sacks and will get to take each one home after completion including the book for each sack. These sessions aim to help children become more involved in the story and promote reading at home. The course will encourage play, which will support the child’s communication and language skills and improve their memory.

Family Upcycling - 6 x 2 hour (non-accredited)

Empowering Parents of Children with Challenging Behaviours - 6 x 2 hour (non accredited)

During these sessions parents will gain the skills and strategies to effectively manage challenging behaviours in children. These sessions focus on providing parents with tools to understand the root causes of these behaviours and to implement positive, evidence-based approaches to address them.

Lego S.T.E.M with Brick Consultant - 5 x 2 hours (non-accredited)

These hands on, fun sessions aim to boost teamwork, spark imagination, and build communication through Lego. Run by brick Consultant (Steve Guinness), who won the Channel 4 show Lego Masters in 2017 nowself employed making bespoke models using Lego and running educational Lego workshops and activities.

Introduction to British Sign Language - 5 x 2 hour sessions (accredited)

This introductory course will provide learners with basic knowledge and understanding of British Sign Language. Upon successful completion learners will be able to enrol onto the Level 1 British Sign Language course.

British Sign Language Level 1 - 22 x 2 hour sessions (accredited)

This course will equip learners with the skills and knowledge to communicate confidently in British Sign Language. Learners will be able to cover a range of themes that involve simple, everyday language use from discussing common topics, asking and answering questions to using appropriate facial expressions and gestures.

These courses are fully funded and free for those aged 19+ living in Wrexham and Flintshire, and will be delivered in an informal, friendly and learner-centred way.
