Community Fridge part of a growing effort to tackle food waste.
Food waste is a big issue in the UK. The average household throws away £700 worth of food every year and at the same time, 4 million people in the UK are living in food poverty. Most food waste in the UK is avoidable and could have been eaten had it been better managed.
The Community Fridge is open to everyone in the local community - without any need to be referred or having to prove eligibility. They can access fresh food that would otherwise have gone to waste. The food is donated by local businesses.
Refurbs Flint is excited to bring this resource to Treuddyn and looks forward to working with the local community to make the fridge a success. The fridge is located at Hafan Deg Community Centre, Treuddyn, Mold, CH7 4PA.
Lorna Crawshaw, Head of Community Programmes & Partnerships, said “We believe that this initiative will not only help reduce food waste but also support individuals and families facing food insecurity.”
