Businesses, organisations and community groups invited to take part in free Water Literacy training course

Groundwork Training is offering a unique opportunity for businesses, organisations and community groups/leaders to take part in Water Literacy, a FREE training course.

The Water Literacy Programme has the potential to be more than a course. It’s also a movement, turning a drop of knowledge into a wave of change. Learners will be equipped with innovative tools, strategies, and the knowhow needed to become accredited as water literate. As well as leaving with an accreditation, learners will be empowered to lead their colleagues, support their communities, and influence their industry to consciously adopt a sustainable water-use approach. Collective actions will create ripples, turning into waves of change, reshaping practices, policies, and perceptions of water where people live and work.

Why is Water Literacy needed?

Efficient water use helps businesses and groups to mitigate climate change, lower carbon footprints, and support the UK's 2050 net zero target. It also helps businesses meet their own net zero and carbon commitments.

Despite the UK’s rain-drenched reputation, demand for fresh water increasingly outstrips supply. Water is an undervalued resource. People don’t typically connect their water use to the environment it comes from and the processes required to get it from source to tap. Funded by Ofwat’s Water Breakthrough Challenge, Northumbrian Water, Groundwork East, Waterwise and their partners are working together to do something about it.

What is the Water Literacy programme?

A learning experience, here to inspire, motivate and educate professionals to play their part in addressing the environmental impact of water scarcity in the UK. It’s an informative, accessible and action-orientated course. Through a day of learning, participants are empowered to embed change at their organisations, at home, and in their communities.

How will the programme be delivered?

  • It’s fully funded for the first 2,000 learners.
  • Online and in-person sessions have been created by water industry experts.
  • Modules are driven by scientific research.
  • Multi-media tools and resources enrich the learning journey.

The course can be delivered virtually with a fully trained tutor over 6 hours, either over 1 or 2 sessions, or face to face – whatever suits you best.  You can either book on an existing course or a course can be arranged for a group from your organisation/community.
